The ELIA consortium aspires to make this website accessible according to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA, consistent with the European accessibility framework (Directive (EU) 2016/2102 on the accessibility of the websites and mobile applications of public sector bodies, and the European Accessibility Act — Directive (EU) 2019/882).
Compliance status
This website aims to conform with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA. We are working towards full conformance and will publish a complete audit following the website's public launch.
Accessibility features in place
- Colour palette chosen for strong contrast on primary text and headings
- Keyboard-navigable interface — no mouse required for primary content
- Semantic HTML5 structure with proper headings hierarchy
alttext on all meaningful images- ARIA roles on interactive components such as modals and dialogs
:focusstates visible on all interactive elements- Responsive layout adapts from mobile to desktop without loss of content
- Self-hosted typefaces for predictable rendering offline and on slow connections
- Forms with explicit
<label>associations
Known limitations
We are aware that the following areas may not yet meet WCAG 2.1 AA in full and we are working to improve them:
- Interactive globe on the home page — graphical content rendered with SVG and JavaScript may be difficult for some assistive technologies. A text-based fallback (the Partners list) is available on the Partners page.
- PDF documents linked from the Knowledge Hub may not all meet PDF/UA standards. We will progressively re-issue them as accessible PDFs as they are published.
- Video content (planned for late in the project) will be published with subtitles and a transcript where possible.
